Going Nuts Over Peanuts

...But it happens sometimes, and that’s okay

Peanuts get a bad rap. From “they are high in calories and fat!” to old wives’ tales that they cause acne. This legume (they aren’t even technically a nut, that’s another rumor) can’t catch a break, despite being widely available across the world. Next time you grab some sate, don’t skimp on the sauce because peanuts have fantastic health benefits.

First off, peanuts are rich in fiber, antioxidants, vitamins (especially vitamin E!) and minerals and monounsaturated fats. But hold on, before you get scared off by ‘the F word’, monounsaturated fats have nothing to do with obesity: it’s a good fat that helps keep your heart strong and protects from cardiovascular diseases. The antioxidants and vitamin E are key to cellular regeneration and healthy skin and hair. And last — but definitely not least — the fiber is very good for your gut and digestive system.

And (thankfully for us!) we aren’t lacking delicious ways to enjoy peanuts. Sate, pecel, gado gado, karedok... Take your pick! Not only are our national dishes delicious, they are super easy to find. Just step outside and we bet there is a kaki lima ready to serve you some tasty (and healthy!) peanuts.
